What Is Intercom Fin and How Does It Price?

Fin is Intercom's AI support agent, sold inside the Intercom platform. Public pricing (checked September 2026) combines seats — roughly $29, $85, and $132 per seat per month on annual billing — with $0.99 charged for every conversation Fin resolves, billed at most once per conversation. In June 2026 Salesforce announced an agreement to acquire Intercom; platform roadmaps and pricing may change as that integration proceeds.

That outcome-based model can be attractive at low automation volume: you only pay when Fin resolves. The trade-off appears at scale — on a 10-agent team resolving 3,000 conversations a month with AI, the resolution meter can exceed the seat cost several times over.

    01

    The Break-Even Math

Run your own numbers with current pricing. Multiply expected monthly AI resolutions by $0.99, add seat costs, then compare against UnifiedRAG's flat plans (Starter $49/month and Growth $149/month ($119/month billed annually), a monthly message allowance). At 500 resolutions per month, Fin's meter is roughly $495 before seats; at 2,000, roughly $1,980. The gap widens with volume — which is exactly why per-resolution pricing is the most debated line item in AI support today.

    02

    What Intercom Fin Does Well

Intercom is a mature platform with deep messaging, an extensive integration ecosystem, and the strongest native handoff of any AI agent — Fin and human agents share one inbox and one customer history. For teams already standardised on Intercom, Fin is the lowest-friction AI path. G2 shows Fin at 4.5/5 (checked September 2026).

UnifiedRAG vs Fin: Architecture and Knowledge

Both agents answer from your content and route to humans when needed. The architectural difference is where the knowledge lives and how the agent is deployed.

Fin is designed around the Intercom platform, including its help centre and connected sources. UnifiedRAG is platform-agnostic: it trains on your website, documents, FAQs, and knowledge base wherever they live, and deploys on any website via one script tag — no requirement to run Intercom.

    01

    Knowledge Grounding

Both products advertise grounded answers; the practical test is what happens when a question falls outside your content. UnifiedRAG is built to acknowledge uncertainty and hand off rather than improvise. Test that specific scenario in both trials: ask a question your documentation does not answer and observe the behaviour.

    02

    Deployment Flexibility

If your stack is Intercom-first and likely to stay that way, Fin's native integration is a real advantage. If you use Zendesk, Freshdesk, Gorgias, Help Scout, Tidio, Crisp, or Front — or you want the same agent on your website, WhatsApp, and email without changing help desks — UnifiedRAG's platform-agnostic model avoids a migration.

    03

    Compliance and Enterprise Requirements

For regulated buyers, verify current certifications directly with each vendor. Intercom publishes its compliance posture including SOC 2, and HIPAA support is generally gated to higher tiers. UnifiedRAG's SOC 2 Type II audit is in progress (target Q3 2026); it is GDPR compliant and HIPAA-ready on Enterprise plans with a signed BAA, with EU/US data residency options.

Ask every vendor the same four questions: current certifications, data residency, subprocessor list, and the tier required for a BAA. Written answers make the comparison concrete.

    01

    Switching Costs

If you are leaving Intercom entirely, budget for help desk migration, workflow recreation, and agent retraining. If you are keeping Intercom but want autonomous AI resolution at flat pricing, UnifiedRAG can run as the AI front-line with escalation into Intercom — you keep the platform and change the economics of tier-1 support.

    04

    Who Should Choose Which

Choose Fin if you are committed to the Intercom platform, value one-vendor simplicity, and your automation volume is modest enough that per-resolution pricing is acceptable. Choose UnifiedRAG if you want autonomous resolution with a monthly message allowance on flat plans, multi-channel deployment regardless of help desk, and an escalation workflow that does not require changing platforms.

Both vendors offer trials; Salesforce's pending acquisition of Intercom is also a reason to re-verify pricing and roadmap commitments before signing a multi-year agreement.
